THE WASHINGTON COMMITMENT TO STOP TB

This high-level meeting at the World Bank involved donors, UN agencies, members of the Stop TB partnership, and ministers of health and finance from high-burden countries. Participants acknowledged that tuberculosis is a critical factor contributing to persistent entrapment by poverty, and an impediment to economic development. They pledged to achieve the following by 2005:



"By the end of 2005, we will achieve a DOTS case detection rate of at least 70% while maintaining a treatment success rate of at least 85%"



"We commit to mobilizing increased financial resources for countries and partners in support of the Global Plan to Stop TB."
